8 Years of Halloween Couples Costumes

I love dressing up for Halloween!

Isn't it fun to wear something totally random for a day?

During high school and graduate school I even got to wear a Halloween costume at my waitress jobs. I loved it. Dressing up can be fun for adults too!

From dating through marriage, we have worn a different couples costume every year for the last eight years. I really enjoyed looking back through these pictures to show all our outfits. Growing up, both my husband and I had to use the "family costume box." I remember being some form of a gypsy and clown multiple times. When we did get new costumes, they were precious! I am so grateful that we have been able to splurge on new costumes these last eight years, and we will have tons of options someday when try to reuse costumes.

They are mostly homemade costumes (if using Goodwill clothing counts as homemade) with some occasionally sewing work by me. Each costume idea also has the ability to morph into a family costume too! Once we started having babies, we included our kids in our matching Halloween costume fun.

We had been dating for two weeks when we appeared as Hans and Leia for our first couples Halloween party. The Nerf guns were my favorite part of the costume.

I bought my first pantsuit for this costume - Presidential bank robbers. While spray painting the toy guns, I got some black specks on my wedding ring that have never fully scrubbed off. Oops.

I was so excited to be a Victorian era ghost that year! I found my dress at Goodwill and tried to dye it grey, but it stayed kinda pinkish. Our baby boy was a ghost-buster; his costume was just a simple onesie with an iron on. My hair wasn't so simple though. It took forever!

This time I was pregnant with our daughter, Grace. I wanted a unique maternity costume, so I came up with the idea to be the money bag in another robber ensemble. Read more about this costume and see the family version here.

Apparently we didn't take a couples costume photo this year, so you get the whole family! Fred and Daphne can be their own couples costume, but since our son loved Scooby Doo we added the whole family to the mix as Velma and Shaggy. This was also the year that I made our famous pumpkin pie pooper for the annual Halloween party. That has remained Johnny's favorite Halloween food item over all the years.

Again we failed to snap a couples picture of our Egyptian costumes. And I admit, I spent lots more time making the kids' costumes than on our couples costumes, but in my defense the baby was only a week old! Our three little mummies were so cute though. I created our adult Egyptian headbands and cuffs the day of Halloween. Read more about these costumes here.

More of Bradleys First Week

Bradley is now two and a half weeks old! Can't believe it! I thought I should post some more pics from his first week since time is flying. We were in the hospital for two days, and that first week was pretty rough with healing for me. I'm definitely glad some time has passed and we are now in some routines and feeling better about things! Bradley has been nothing but perfect and an angel and so healthy, so we are SO glad about that!

Right now we are both battling thrush which is not awesome. Praying for fast healing! Oh and Grandma has been in Canada for what feels like a month so I am dying for her to get back next week and have some help and company! :)

We know people have very strong opinions about pacifiers, but this WubbaNub has saved our lives! Our pediatrician and the home nurse agreed that some babies are more oral, and they said I shouldn't have to be a human pacifier! So our decision is to embrace and love the WubbaNub!

My friend Nicole and I signed up for Gearapalooza a few months ago and were so excited! I never thought I would be pregnant so late so since the event was the day after Bradley was born, my mom went in my place! They had fun. :)

However I think Nate is glad to be home in a regular bed. :)

Going home - scariest five minute drive of Nate's life! PS - this weekend I went to Baby on Grand to pick up a gift from my mom and their carseat expert was working and helped SO much with the proper ways to have him in the seat! Literal lifesaver! Go to your baby boutiques for help - they are the true experts!

Made it home! The little girls were so happy to see us and confused that we brought someone with. :)

First sleeping spot - 4Moms Breeze. Since then he has been sleeping in the Snugabunny Swing per the SIL's recommendation and has really been sleeping amazingly!! AND we also have the Halo Bassinest now so we have lots of options! This is now downstairs so I have for during the day.

Nicole came to visit! So fun!

100th Day of School T Shirt Ideas

The 100th Day of School!!!!

We made it this far, and we're so much closer to summertime!

Our Simon has been counting the days this week until the 100th day of kindergarten, and I was excited to help him make his very first 100th Day of School t-shirt. I remember gluing pennies onto a shirt when I was in elementary school - which I loved, except for the heavy weight of the shirt afterwards. So, Simon and I came up with another idea that used weightless permanent fabric markers.

We dubbed it the "Dot Rod" shirt since we used 100 dots to trace a Hot Rod. (Car loving genes run thick in this family!) Our first step was to print out a hot rod picture with a sideways profile. Then we taped the car cut-out to his shirt.

I really wanted to let him do the dots on his own, but he kept meandering away from the car. . . so I held the fabric marker with him while he colored the dots. I was so proud of him! He counted all the way to 100 with only a couple mistakes. My smart, little Kindergartner!

After the outline was traced, Dad helped him trace the wheels. Then Simon drew on the flames and racing stripes. Instead of writing "Hot Wheels" onto the shirt, I added "School" to better match the 100th Day of School theme. Finally, Dad added the checkered flag and his name to make it an official racing "dot rod."
